Tulsi (Holy Basil)

Tulsi or Holy Basil, botanical name Ocimum tenuiflorum, or Ocimum sanctum,  'is an aromatic plant in the family Lamiaceae which is native to South Asia and widespread as a cultivated plant throughout the Eastern World tropics' (from Wikipedia).

Most commonly (and they are very common in most Indian households, even the most modest of homes might have at least a young potted plant) seen as two kinds: the green stemmed one known as "Ram Tulsi" and the dark, purple stemmed one known as "Krishna Tulsi".

To Use:
Pluck the leaves, rinse and use, whole or chopped/pinched (to release more flavour).
